Mumbai, Jul 21 (UNI) Akshay Oberoi has unveiled a striking retro-inspired look for his upcoming film "Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-ups", paying tribute to the timeless style and larger-than-life screen presence of Hindi cinema's legendary stars from the 1970s.
Speaking about his look in the film, Oberoi shares, "The retro mustache and classic hairstyle weren't just styling choices. They were inspired by the timeless style and charisma of the stars from the ’70s. I've always admired the effortless screen presence of actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna, Shatrughan Sinha, and Danny Denzongpa. There was something incredibly powerful and distinctive about that era, and I wanted to capture a bit of that spirit through my character."
According to the actor, seeing himself in the mirror instantly transported him to another era, with every element of the look, from the hairstyle to the moustache, carefully crafted to evoke nostalgia while remaining relatable to contemporary audiences, according to Variety India.
During the 1970s, Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Khanna helped redefine the image of the Hindi film hero. Bachchan's towering frame, side-parted hair, sharp tailoring, tinted aviators and signature mustache in films like “Deewaar,” “Trishul” and “Don” began that era's "angry young man" trend.
Vinod Khanna, meanwhile, became synonymous with understated sophistication and effortless style by donning crisp shirts, leather jackets and flared trousers that made him one of the decade's most stylish leading men.
